Why are binary stars – especially eclipsing binary stars – so useful to astronomers? They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. It also allows one to select a sequence of objects, and display information about each one. The total time is halved to get just the distance from the Earth to the object.
