The best of the three was “A Drop of Water”, about a nurse who comes to a home to look over a dead body. This anthology, assembled by the team at Cutting Block Press, publishers of the Horror Library series, should be an eye-opener. Filled with imagery both terrifying and hokey, there’s a little bit of everything in Mario Bava’s classic trilogy of terrors.

Kemper, Erinn L. “The Claim,” A Darke Phantastique. Five numbered anthologies; a massive sixth volume called The Best of Interzone (but it doesn’t reprint anything from the previous five volumes); and a final volume oddly titled The Ant-Men of Tiber and Other Stories – with no mention of Interzone on the cover, although all the stories are culled from Pringle’s final years on the magazine. It’s like a synecdoche of the entire genre through it’s entire history, and we like to think it has a little something for everyone.

While not my preferable sub- genre, I was very impressed with it and enjoyed it to the last second. 10 of 12 people found this review helpful. Drawn into the strange supernatural house, he is faced with the true horror of Hitomi and finds himself forever unable to escape. Below are the rest of our 30 Best Horror Anthologies, and of course, a few Honorable Mentions thrown in for good measure. Deadline info Submissions accepted year-round. Some of the stories in this collection were fantastic, some were not so great, but on the whole this was a collection brimming with gothic atmosphere and attitude and well worth a look for any fans of the genre.

Campbell, Ramsey “Her Face,” The Burning Maiden 2. The film constantly wears down any sense of hope that both the audience and the characters might have, making you feel as if there’s no way that this priest, not particularly strong in his own faith, is going to be able to save the possessed little girl. Gohling back to his house and gets trapped inside only to discover the horrors going on within said house. Authors of all walks of life should feel encouraged to send us stories and poems celebrating these diverse characters and settings all around us.
